Say YES to the Cover Letter
Say YES to the Cover Letter Recently, a student that had graduated several months ago sent me an e-mail. Her question was similar to the following: âDo I need to send a cover letter for a job opening?â She was asking the question because the advertisement did not specifically say that a cover letter was needed. My answer to her was simple: âYES.â Sometimes it is appropriate to go above-and-beyond the requirements. Of course you want to send a cover letter to a prospective employer! This is your chance to let the âreal youâ shine through! The cover letter will be reviewed even before the resume. In fact, the cover letter may be the document that gets you an interview. My advice to any job seekers: even if the advertisement does not ask for a cover letter, send one. You can never go wrong with additional communication. And, please be specific in relation to the job opportunity. Do not send a letter addressed to âDir Sir or Madam,â as these people do not exist. Call the company and find out the appropriate person to whom the letter should be addressed. Finally, just in case you missed it, please remember to always send a cover letter. If you need help crafting a cover letter, search it on Google, find a template, or ask someone to help you. At Feather Communications, I am always sure to take extra time with this important document. After all, as a first impression, you want to be sure to get it right â" each time.
